Am posting this a little late, however we are still right slap bang in the middle of the April Eclipse / Grand Square energy. As I write, the Moon is slowly gliding towards a conjunction with Capricorn and will ACTIVATE and trigger the Grand Square energy that every astrologer and his dog has been bleating on about! (me included)

Testing, testing…times!

Here is my video overview of the April Astrology Survival Guide – How to transcend, surf, and thrive during these challenging times I guess. For more specific links to your actual starsign during this time, please see the following post with links to my audio updates.

Will it be a walk in the park?

Happy Birthday Aries!

Happy Birthday Aries. It’s that time again, your time, when the Sun is in your very own sign. It marks the start of your new year ahead. There are many free horoscopes out there for your year ahead. This one, for example takes you up until New Year 2015. As a birthday present to you, I thought I’d write a little about the Spiritual Lessons that are going on for you.

Happy Birthday Aries! How are the current planets influencing you right now?

…You’ve got both Neptune and Chiron, trawling through your the deep waters of your unconscious mind at the moment, and independent, feisty Uranus in your first house of personality and direction. These long term aspects are creating some discomfort for those that like to keep it all simple, and straightforward.

Me and My Shadow…..

With Neptune and Chiron in your 12th house of secrets, guilt, shame and the unconscious – it’s a time when you’re much more intuitive and knowing than usual. That’s not so bad for signs that like to connect to their emotions, but for you Aries, it’s confusing. You don’t like to wallow in the wishy washy waters of emotion, it seems weak. This is a long term transition for you, with the cosmos pushing you to open up to your secret fears and insecurities. These times are about you embracing your own dark and transmuting it into something useful, light and memorable.

For those of you that struggle with this, you might find yourself exploring the Neptune effect by altering your head space (with drinks, drugs and anti-depressants), or you might be indulging in very personal, secret love trysts. The addictive and secretive effect of Neptune here gets you to explore sides of you that you’re afraid of and intrigued by. There’s a pull, a calling and inescapable allure.

For those who are artistically inclined, the Neptune and Chiron energy can lead to some industrial strength creativity, where you’ll find your muse. Any opportunity to express this energy creatively will make it easier on you. That could be musically, artistically, through poetry, writing, performing. Healers and those of a religious leaning can find this time a golden opportunity to connect further into compassion, but not without a lot of soul searching on the way.

I Predict a Riot………

With Uranus in your own sign in your first house, you are getting stirred into action / rebellion and to stand firm in your convictions. Maybe it’s the effect of having Neptune and Chiron in your 12th house. It will have been stirring up your dreams, memories and certainty in who you are. With Uranus (the planet of sudden change and an extreme need for freedom) in your first house of core identity, you’ll be called into action. The call to action will in some way be a relief from the ethereal and confusing thinking that might be going on about your self-identity.

Uranus here has a way of drawing exciting happenings, chance encounters and unusual ideas. For the quirky Aries out there, this will suit you immensely and give you a carefree nonchalance. It’s in ‘not giving a damn’ that you’re able to access the vitality of this aspect. When you feel free, and free of expectations, you can go about being who you want to be – a dynamic opportunity to self-express and explore.

Happy birthday Aries!

During this time Pluto in Capricorn in your 10th house of career and achievement ( and also fatherly relationships) is transforming your attitude in these areas. In the past you may have seen the path to achievement as being well defined and that gave you an easy way out of making decisions about your life. You could simply follow the pre-defined rules as laid out by society. But in the last few years, you have come to question whether this course of action leads to your happiness. This has created a dynamic within you of being frozen in place. Unsure of what the future will bring if you were to ‘blow off’ society’s directives and simply follow your own heart. Overall, this phase is supposed to help you loosen up and share with the world your real gifts (ie: not necessarily the ones you get paid for). Do not be afraid to commit to a new and exciting career phase in life.

In relationship to father/authority issues, this phase in your life is about becoming adult enough in yourself so that you don’t feel afraid of being on your own. Until you get to a state of feeling in charge of your own life, it will be easy to view your father/authority as being somehow causal to your current experience. This is not the case, just a projection. Let go of your fixed ideas about how your father/authority should behave. The freedom you’ll feel when you can concentrate on your own development will be exhilarating. Moreover, with this soul-searching completed, you’ll automatically know how to proceed in your work and achievements. In short, reconciling your relationship to ‘The Masculine Principles’, will help you to move forward in a more meaningful way.

Saturn in Scorpio in your 8th house depicts a frustrating time of not feeling empowered to make your own life choices. You may also be a little more reclusive than normal, hiding away. You definitely don’t’ feel like you’re in the driver’s seat (even when everyone around you is scratching their heads wondering why). To you, you have been feeling buffeted by others and less likely to take your own stand. Issues of guilt, blame and judgement all play their parts in helping you choose not to act. Once you clear these, your path will be much clearer so you can move forward and engage in life once more. You’re in the tail end of this aspect now, and by Xmas 2014, you’ll be out of the woods. Right now, it is still feeling acute, and will gradually wear off as the year progresses. Key turning points on this journey are from July and October when you make sudden dashes forward and feel increasingly more yourself.

Jupiter in Cancer until July 16th, will also be emphasising your relationships towards the feminine (ie: your relationship to your home, family and in particular, your mother). Are Jupiter is in a difficult relationship to both Uranus, Mars and Pluto during spring 2014, you may find that you’ve been at severe odds with this part of your life. One moment, you’re feeling compassionate, loving and social. The next moment, a burst of surprising anger surfaces and gets released. Jupiter (the planet of expansion) turns the spotlights on in these areas, and then projects them on to a big cinema screen. It becomes near impossible to maintain your cool when your hurts resurface time and again. Again, you’re at the tail end of this influence and by mid July, you’ll be more concerned with living it up, rather than moping at home.

Harsh words!

My way or the highway! Be wary of walking away from others....

My way or the highway! Be wary of walking away from others….

Mars, your ruler has been creating opportunities to expand and strengthen your relationships, though in your quest to do just that, you have been getting really angry at those who you feel have been unfair to you. There has been a definite edginess in how you are in your relationships with people at the moment. With Mars in Libra (in your 7th house from the 7th December 2013), people in your family and home began to seriously irritate you and you began to resent them. With Uranus in your 1st and Mars in your 7th house, not only are you bristling to feel free and unencumbered, but you’re more critical of those nearest and dearest to you. As the saying goes, you hurt the one’s you love. Add in the shadowy Neptune/Chiron in your place of insecurities and you’ve got a recipe to find hurt, offense and anger at anyone who matches the projections of your childhood. Be very careful in how you express yourself and your hurts, as others might feel attacked by your judgements.

From early March 2014, you’ve felt less irritable with your loved ones and that’s because Mars went retrograde. It doesn’t necessarily mean that your issues have disappeared – more likely, you’ve temporarily run out of steam. It would be wise during this time to take practical action, to have constructive conversations and ‘park’ your irritations. You might find that by the 20th May, when Mars goes direct again (and regains his strength), that your irritations have naturally passed. Where they haven’t naturally passed, think very carefully about whether you are being unfairly treated. This aspect really triggers the ‘little tantrum’ energy in you, where you want to stamp your feet and shout ‘not fair!’ like a small child.  In truth, you already can see that these upsets belong in the past and aren’t really what’s going on now. You just haven’t yet found your way of letting your past hurts go. Be brave. Forgive and forget and see how that works for you. Get impartial help if you don’t feel able to work through this with your loved ones.

July sees a crucial turning point in your year. With Jupiter moving out of your 4th house (of family, home and Mother) and into Leo in your 5th house of fun, creativity and passion, you’ll be able to apply yourself to expressing your bliss. It’s a time to expand, time to get excited, to try out new things and to be romantic too. By the 27th, when your ruler Mars moves into your 8th house, you’ll find yourself back in the driver’s seat, to make some significant life changes and on a more personal note, to enjoy yourself in the arms of another! By this point, the tension that you were feeling towards others seems to evaporate, and that might be because you feel in control once again and not like a spectator in your own life.

From the 14th September, when Mars moves into Sagittarius, you’ll be able to deepen your appreciation for all things philosophical, cultural and different. This could mark an interesting time to have a long trip away. If you’re not physically going away, then use this time to mentally voyage – it’s a great time to expand mentally through study or intense learning. In fact the week before and after the 9th October  (when Mars conjuncts Jupiter and makes a delicious trine aspect to Uranus) is a brilliant time all round as you’ll be feeling unstoppable in your energy, positive, optimistic and lucky. Watch out for any unusual opportunities that delight you during this time. Follow them up with the determination of an eager child!

During this time, there is the Lunar eclipse of the 8th October and the Solar eclipse of the 23rd October. where I would advise that you take some quiet time to focus on where you are going in life and what you hope to achieve. The Lunar eclipse of the 8th marks an important time in your relationships, though is not particularly restful. That said, it could be a wonderful experience indeed to just start over a fresh, let go of your sorrows with particular people, and see their influence over you disappear, leaving you even freer to feel in control.

The Solar eclipse of the 23rd, is very lucky for people ruled by Mars (ie; YOU). It is marked as being pivotal in a long term decision making process. Now is the time to make those life changes. Any decisions that you are not yet ready to make, simply let them go. Act now purely on those changes that you can change quickly, easily and on those that will boost your sense of accomplishment. You are officially now back in the swing of things!

A few days after the Solar eclipse (27th October), Mars moves into Capricorn and energises your career / achievement sector of your life. I see this time until the 5th December as being a time of knuckling down. The recent life decisions you have made, have no freed you up to work with passion and determination. For the rest of December, I see you relaxing substantially as new friends come into your life. It’s almost as if the new career directions you are going in, are drawing close to you a whole new set of supportive and advantageous friends. Be open to any networking opportunities and be ready to dazzle and shine! Saturn finally moves out of Scorpio and in to Sagittarius (your 9th house) on Xmas eve 2014. All of a sudden you can dash forward in your life changes. It would seem that any hesitancy in committing to a course of action is long gone.

This is a confusing, busy and passionate year for you Aries, and it could be easy to get down-hearted by the experiences you have been going through. Spiritually, this time is preparation for you. It is helping you learn about diplomacy, sharing of truth and authenticity. It is asking you to let go of yourself, by noticing stuff in others that winds you up. This is the delicious key in self-knowledge and personal uprising. You are on a trajectory to leadership, but before you’ll be entrusted to lead the way forward, you need to believe in yourself. As the most dynamic learning to occur comes through relationships, this is where you’ve been and are being challenged. By the time your next birthday comes around you’ll be sparkling, purposeful and attuned to what is really important. Can’t say fairer than that can you Aries? There’ll be smoother times ahead, soon.

Happy Birthday AriesAries – Current Spiritual Lesson

  1. To notice what irritates you
  2. To explore what makes you feel vulnerable
  3. To learn new ways to transmute irritations and vulnerability
  4. To be OK with it and use it to stir you into meaningful action
  5. To go forth into the world with a clear intention to cooperate with others
  6. To allow this great learning to transform you into your own leader

Tall Order, or Just the ticket?

Hmm it seems that’s a big ask from you, don’t you think Aries? And yes maybe it is, but these are BIG TIMES with lots of change and the world always finds the right amount of leaders to help others. You are part of the future. Attitude is everything and it is important that you talented Aries people stay focused. You are vital to the world, you see.

This year sees you becoming more resilient in yourself and finally letting go of your relationship anxieties. It is a time when you need to step up and make changes where you realise you are projecting onto others. This may seem too much for you emotionally, which is why it’s important to find yourself some positive outlets.

As you learn new emotional coping skills and aptitudes, it will slowly dawn on you, that you are capable of achieving great things. This will encourage you to ‘tool up’ and get resourceful. You’ll have the most luck where you can blend your love of being active in a practical way. Trust me, you’ll be much clearer about your self worth after this period – and you’ll be more appreciated too.

I would highly recommend that you delve deep this year to iron out the kinks in your armour and learn to trust your instincts for change. You have help in 2014 from Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto. You’ll make more great strides this year than in other years. If you let your fear of personal growth keep you in the same place, it could lead you to a place of stagnation and decay, which will make it much harder for you in the long run to follow your dreams.

This year sees you being much less concerned with who, what or where you are, Aries. The planets are creating a fertile environment from which to create. you are in a metaphorical womb. You may feel the impending re-birth, but for now it is a time for you to work out your unhappiness with others. No one is responsible for your happiness except you. Ditch the blame game and move on.

Your need for privacy and introspection is much greater now, and I see you having many long walks to think things over. Be careful that you stay positive and don’t let your current moodiness affect your ability to connect with other people.

Re-write your story

Get creative and re-write your story.

Ask yourself these 2 questions and write down the first things that come into your head.  ‘If I was free to live my life, what would I do?”If I didn’t care what other people thought of me, how would I live my life?’

There are many natural teachers around you right now, in the form of creative types and also distant friends, so re-connect and share ‘who you are’ with them. They may have been through a similar experience. One thing’s for sure, once you’ve cracked this question of identity, you’ll be liberated and relieved.

Karmic Astrology Patterns, Pluto in Capricorn

The Controller versus The Transformer

Controller versus Transformer

So the first look in the Karmic Astrology Patterns Series is Pluto in Capricorn (Controller Versus Transformer). Here I’ll look at what Pluto in Capricorn represents, and look at how it’s energies are playing out in the world, within families, for individuals and what it is asking us to do spiritually.

Pluto went into Capricorn in 2008, so it may seem like this edition is about six years too late. You could be forgiven for thinking just that. And yet, when I tell you that it will be in Capricorn until March 2023 the realisation dawns – no matter how dramatic Pluto’s effect will be here – his energies are generational. They take time to be understood, to express and for us to hear their call.

So what does Pluto in Capricorn mean? Let’s have an ‘in a nutshell’ look at both Pluto and Capricorn separately to give you an easier submersion into it.

Pluto in a nutshell

The outermost planet of the solar system, you’d be mistaken in thinking it had no influence. Pluto seems quite happy out there in the dark, secretly getting on with what he does. This power planet represents absolute power, will power, the ultimate in ‘don’t let go’ sticking power. Pluto goes where no other planet dares, into deep dark holes where it can challenge soul secrets and find your buried treasure. Pluto rules birth, death, re-birth and any major life transformation in between.  He’s very happy to get his hands dirty and finds pain illuminating. Change through a Pluto transit often brings profound pain because it challenges your ‘no go’ areas and all that you’d prefer to keep secret. It is humbling, brings you to your knees and connects you to your core truth.

Pluto at its worst is when people sink to their lowest, blackmailing and lying. It rules the underworld, terrorism, nuclear threats and mafioso type cabals. It is terrifying in it’s demand for absolute power. It is death.

Pluto at its best brings about deep truth, rewarding life changes, rags to riches stories, a true hero’s journey. Pluto uncovers deceit and cleanses the grime and dirt from the underworld (and your personal underworld)

Capricorn in a nutshell

The 10th sign in the Zodiac, Capricorn is the active, transforming earth sign that is concerned with resource,  wealth,  achievement and success. Capricorn energy seeks to climb ladders, empire build and have the most power. This ambitious energy is unafraid to have a long-term plan. Capricorn is practical and understands that with discipline, patience and perseverance anything can be achieved. At its worst it stops at nothing to execute its overall plan.  This is the BIG DADDY of signs. Capricorn loves to be in charge and self sufficient. At its best, Capricorn can reach true wisdom and guide others to looking after themselves.

Other words describing Capricorn – serious, stoic, old father time, leadership, stern, conventional, competitive

Putting them together

Pluto in Capricorn looks at our relationship to order, organisation, leadership, achievement, wealth and conservatism through the lens of control and transformation. In many respects there’s a natural crossover between both Pluto energy and Capricorn energy. (The need for control). But there is a difference between the two.

Pluto digs deep and the expression of his energy can get very messy indeed. Likening it to the phoenix rising from the ashes is not a sweeping statement. Having had Pluto transition over my personal planets and my Ascendant, I can vouch for the fact that each new Pluto generated epoch in my life began after the crushing of the old life. Pluto energy doesn’t just control and transform – it can rip you apart, limb by limb before you can piece yourself back layer by layer. So the manifestation of Pluto’s energies can be very visible.

Capricorn is a private sign. They value their privacy and will calmly let you know how welcome your intrusions are (they’re not! In case you were wondering). Capricorns take their time to learn to trust you, so when they go through change, you can bet your life that they’ll do it as discreetly and as invisibly as possible. If they ‘re-launch’ themselves, it’ll be planned meticulously.

Pluto in Capricorn refers then to how we take control or are controlled in our lives. It looks at where our controls help and hinder us. Pluto in Capricorn has little respect for flakiness. It’s energy is about ‘being your word’.  It is also keen to dominate and direct. So whilst Pluto transits through Capricorn we can expect to see a generational shift where we lose the inflated optimism and need to be looked after. We need to learn to communicate thoroughly, truthfully and respectfully. It’s a time of growing up, where we’ll each be challenged to become our own authority.  Where we decline to take ownership of how we run our lives, we’ll be controlled, owned and in some way imprisoned. This is the dilemma; Pluto’s energy can express as totalitarian control, or it can be expressed as transformation in your world, family and life.

Allowing the divine unfolding…

The question I would pose to you all now is, are you ready? If not now, have a think about when you might be. You have got until 2023 for this energy to filter through your life and control, transform and uplift – though I would add these three caveats……

  1. Generational learning and development affects everyone eventually. Even when you don’t engage in the act of conscious self development, if everyone around you does, you will by association be transformed. When you know change is occurring, it is often more stressful to maintain the original status quo. Consider the meaning of Pluto in Capricorn, how it might affect/influence you and then allow your unconscious to bring new opportunities to you
  2. Pluto loves a fight, so will relish your resistance to rising up to claim your authority. He doesn’t care how you acknowledge his influence during this time. He just knows it’ll happen. Therefore this time can be as hard or as easy as you make it.
  3. The planetary line up at the moment is primed to turn the world upside down in what it knows to be true. Change is afoot. Where you are resistant to new information, new ways of living and being, this is likely to manifest in super quick time. We have a hard square aspect between Pluto in Capricorn and Uranus in Aries – there’s no softly softly with this. Jupiter, Mars and the Moon will all play their parts over the next couple of months to set this energy on fire. We are in a virtual birth canal. Information that affects how we look after ourselves, information that has been suppressed, information that reveals who we are is just around the corner. This is a time of self realisation.

To give you a clearer idea of what I think is going on, I have looked at this time through the lenses of world society, family dynamics and individual evolution. Click on the links below to learn more about what Pluto in Capricorn is asking of us.

  1. At a world level
  2. At a family level
  3. At a personal level

Pluto in Capricorn and Individual Evolution

Pluto in Capricorn and individual evolution

‘In a chart it (Pluto) shows where changes are happening, a sacrifice is called for, or a descent into darkness’ Ma Gyan

For anyone who has experienced a transit of Pluto over a personal planet or sensitive spot on your chart, you can no doubt already relate to this quote. In my personal experience of Pluto going over my Uranus, Ascendant, Mars, Neptune, North Node, Mercury, Sun and now Venus – it seems I’m now very comfortable with the essence of change, transformation and growth. But it wasn’t always easy. Did I struggle? You bet. Did I have many different episodes in my life, before it began to coalesce into something consistent? Of course.

And no doubt, like yours, my first real encounters with Pluto caused me to dig my heels in deeper. To become resolute, to stick with what I already knew to be true. That was my first, and most forgivable mistake. We’re raised to conform from birth. We’re given all the answers we’re told we’ll ever need, so when Pluto first comes calling, and you first begin to question your authority, be ready for a crisis in confidence.

Pluto forces us to drop fear, guilt and shame. When we choose not to come clean or live our truth, he simply gives us more fear, more guilt and more shame. He keeps dishing it out until the weight of it all becomes too heavy to bear. He shows us our burdens and offers us the chance to redeem them – but it all comes at a price. Naked truth. So what about Pluto in Capricorn and our Individual Evolution?

Individual evolution and revolution

Pluto’s transit through Capricorn is very much to do with how you cope on an individual level. It looks at how you respond to authority, resource and structural stability. Where Pluto transits within your birthchart currently, he’ll be challenging you to be more resourceful, deeply authentic and vulnerable about who you are.

Call from the wild or little nudge back to truth?

For some people right now, Pluto is catalysing some major regeneration and release. The people most affected by Pluto currently are people who are born in the first week of January, April, July and October. (for exact dates see Karmic Astrology Patterns – Pluto in Capricorn). For these people, Pluto would have made himself very present in their lives over the last few years. You’ve felt the build up and it is now your time to release all that no longer serves you. It is made all the more epic right now as not only are you having a Pluto rebirth, but you’ve got Uranus and Jupiter igniting and blowing up your fears, guilts and shames. For these people, there’s an ongoing release of the blame game. Because of the other planetary participants, your transformation is very visible too. It’s hard to deny or hide. There’s no where to go but to release.

For those people born in the first week of March, May, September and November – the energies are much smoother, and you seem to be supported in transforming yourself. You can transmute the challenge and surf the waves with much greater style.

If you have any strong point, planet or aspect around 11-14 degrees of the Cardinal signs (Capricorn, Aries, Cancer or Libra), you have some unfinished business to attend to. You are going through some major transformations and within a couple of years, when you review where you were in 2014, you’ll be surprised at where it has all taken you.

For those of you who don’t fit in any of these categories, Pluto’s transit through Capricorn will create easier and slowly evolving energies in that area represented by Capricorn in your birthchart. Your changes won’t be make it to your top 10 most life changing moments, but by 2023, you’ll definitely have a hero’s journey narrative to do with your slow but steady growth. Don’t worry – you’ll have a Pluto revolution sometime soon in one shape or another!

How does Pluto show up?

I don’t know how you’ll first experience Pluto calling you. I clearly heard a whisper from my higher self. A whisper, or seed of doubt about how I was living my life and who I was sharing it with. I chose to ignore the whisper.  If I had have acknowledged it, it would have meant opening myself up to being vulnerable. I would have had to share how I was feeling and ask questions of someone, with whom I may not have enjoyed the answers from.  So, like most people I appeared to ignore it. But Pluto’s call is difficult to ignore.

I swallowed it. I drank it. I distracted it. I confused it. I used all the tricks in the book to suppress my whisper from coming out. And during that time I got very sick.

But your Pluto wake up call might not be a whisper. It might be a chance encounter that reminds you have far you have strayed from your purpose. It might be a crippling illness, a broken relationship, the death of loved one – there are many different straws to break your back with. Pluto challenges us in the most profound and shocking way. So my advice to you, would be to listen carefully, and see where in your life you are not looking after yourself. With Pluto in Capricorn you’re being challenged to become more resourceful, more responsible and to parent yourself. Pluto in this position stops at nothing beyond complete transformation of your standing in life.

Which house is Pluto hiding in?

Pluto in Capricorn Individual Evolution

It is interesting to notice which house Pluto is in, and which area of life Capricorn represents for you. In understanding this, it gives you a heads up into the types of transformations, deaths and rebirths you are going through. For some people, this might be:-

In your first house

Who are you? No who are you really? How have you hidden yourself and not followed your truth? Whose expectations have you been living up to? Ditch these! When transformed, YOU FEEL FREE

In your second house

How have you undervalued yourself / your contributions? How have you been hiding from being able to finance your life? Are you ready to be self sufficient yet? Can you stand on your own two feet? Can you sell yourself? When transformed, YOU FEEL ABUNDANT

In your third house

How have you not shared or communicated your truth? How can you live authentically in your neighbourhood / in your family environment? When transformed,  YOU CONNECT, SHARE AND RADIATE

In your fourth house

Where has your heredity held you back? Have you unresolved business with your parents? How can you release your childhood and become ‘at home’ wherever you are? When transformed, YOU FEEL NOURISHED

In your fifth house

How has pleasure transformed your life? Are you following your passions? How has following your bliss created space for drastic transformation? How can you make good on your relationships with your offspring? When transformed, YOU FEEL FERTILE,  AND BELIEVE IN POSSIBILITY

In the sixth house

How have your obligations held you in place? How has honouring your expectations affected your health? Can you cope with challenge and rebirth in your day to day living? When transformed, YOU FEEL UNSTOPPABLE

In the seventh house

Where have your relationships left you feeling shameful? What guilt do you carry from not honouring your commitment to yourself? How do your relationships need to evolve to stay relevant for you? Are they still necessary for you?  When transformed YOU FEEL LOVED AND IN LOVE

In the eighth house

Where does your need for transformation stir you? How free are you to start again? To move? To grow? Have you faced death? How do you feel about your mortality? When transformed, YOU FEEL TRULY ALIVE

In the ninth house

Where have you not listened to your higher calling? How does your life stop you from living consistently with your higher ideals? How will you let go of expectations to enable you to serve your good? When transformed,YOU FEEL CONNECTED TO YOUR HIGHEST GOOD

In the tenth house

Where have you ignored your calling for achievement? Have you let childhood expectations hide you from success? How will you know when you successful? Will you ever be satisfied with your efforts? When transformed,YOU FEEL APPRECIATED

In the eleventh house

Where has your style of connecting created difficulties with projects, people and cooperatives? Why have your attempts to connect left you feeling isolated? How can you contribute without merging too far into the collective? When transformed, YOU FEEL BELONGING

In the twelfth house

How is it that you are in a state of undoing? Why do you feel uncomfortable in your own skin? Where do you not trust your instincts, memories and behaviours? When transformed,YOU FEEL AT PEACE

I now find it freeing to question EVERYTHING. It seems the more I learn, the more I can undo and re-learn. It is more appropriate than ever to intuit, trust and gravitate towards that which makes me happy, and to walk away from that which causes stress. That is how I live my life and work through Pluto. I’ve seen this expression transform others too.

When I unpack the reasons why most people choose to stay in stressful states, It is usually through fear, guilt and shame. Drop these, get honest and face your truth. The freedom you gain from letting go of these expectations is incredible. I highly recommend the following two people in resolving to let go of your hidden shames, but of course, should you want to talk it through, feel free to book a consultation and get Pluto off your chest!

Pluto in Capricorn and the Family Dynamic

What does Pluto in Capricorn mean to the family dynamic?

Have you ever tried to get a goat to do something that it didn’t want to already do? (virtually impossible). Goaty Capricorn behaviours are currently reflected in the family dynamics throughout the emerging western world. There are patterns of expectations and reward for specific behaviours deemed either good or bad / right or wrong. With Pluto’s slow transit through Capricorn we see the structure of family dynamics being challenged and questioned. It is creating an all or nothing’ trend within families. The trouble is, no one is really budging. Let’s have a look at how this is happening…

In a similar way that Pluto in Capricorn is making society sit up and take stock of their relationship to world responsibility and resource, so too is Pluto in Capricorn making us consider the true nature of responsibility and resource within the family unit. Our family dynamics are having a long awaited overhaul.

Let’s look primarily at those with the most apparent power within the family. These are the Matriarchs and Patriarchs. The ones with the most resource, power and experience – these family members are now in a position of choosing between controlling or transforming their family structures. This is a new experience for them, because for many, they have worked tirelessly for only a few employers over a working lifetime. They haven’t really considered their family needs beyond the terms of providing a home, clothing and food for their children until they left school. That’s how it was for them. That’s how they were raised.

Family responsibility was much more clearly defined in their day, with social norms and strong expectations on behaviour.  They were the ‘children should be seen and not heard’  generation formed of the Pluto in Cancer and Leo generations.

The Pluto in Cancer generation (1913-1938) who were fearful for their home and their family, experienced great suffering and sacrifice. Many losing relatives to war, many seeing (and feeling) the loss of structure within their home towns. These people had their security violated in a major way. Their challenge was to find structure, rebuild and regenerate. They became very skilled and resourceful and were expected to muck in. There wasn’t time to discuss or bicker within the family. Children fell into line, like soldiers to a general.

The Pluto in Leo generation (1938-1958), who are also now largely retired (or about to), had fears of being controlled by a tyrant/dictator. Seeing and feeling the horror of totalitarianism, they learnt to become their own power houses of control. Whilst they too were privy to strong family expectations, some of the hardships were wearing off during their childhood. They were raised knowing that they would recreate society, that they would be entrusted to ‘rule’ businesses and their homes in a new way. They had opportunities and took what they could, when they could.

Building on from the regeneration of the previous generation they oversaw the start of people management. These boomers got very wealthy from this and have profited from grabbing at opportunities and loopholes as they have occurred.

Both group of retired people, who owe lots of their wealth to the business practices of the 80s and 90s, and the housing boom, are now quietly seething that their younger family are struggling so much. They think they are irresponsible and have brought it on themselves. They see disrespect, dishonour and non-commitment from their younger family members.

Divorce isn’t yet common place for this generation, so you’ve also got an inbred culture of ‘making good of bad choices’. This generation are wonderful at shutting off their intuitions, passions and desires for the ability to live a ‘functional and correct’ lifestyle. It’s not really their fault, it’s how they were programmed during difficult times.

They had far less choice than subsequent generations, and did help to rebuild the western world. Now in retirement, they are taking a well-deserved rest, enjoying long foreign holidays and applying their own logic to new dilemmas. They think  ‘if it  (hard work) was good enough for me, it’s good enough for them’.

It’s my way or the high way!

Pluto in capricorn and family dynamic

From their perspective of hard work, gritting their teeth and making sacrifices, they feel within their power to assume that this would be the right strategy for their successive generations. Because they are reasonably comfortable in life, they are quite loathe to question, challenge and get involved in the way society is being shaped. You don’t bite the hand that feeds you’ is a common ingrained thinking pattern here.

If you press them on their loyalty to the system, rather than listen openly to your concerns, you are more likely to be talked over, shut down or called ‘an extremist’! For them to question authority, they might have to change their thinking, and if they changed their thinking, it might change their lives. And they’ve worked all their lives for what they have now.  All their trophies of comfort, they’ll be loathe to give up.

Growing dissension in the ranks!

PLuto in Capricorn and family dynamicsThe following two generations who are the bulk of the workforce right now are living the reality of what their parents and grandparents created for them. Not being so worried about security and authority as the previous generations, these people from the 60s, 70s and early 80s have been more concerned with quality rather than quantity. Their loyalties to their elders have been strained as they are raising their children very differently, in a very different world of contrasting needs. Torn between following their family norms and finding their own way, many have moved away from their place of birth. Physical distance and a preoccupation with having to make ends meet has granted them more anonymity from their kin.

The Pluto in Virgo generation (1958-1971), seeing and feeling the shift in globalism became aware and fearful of poisoning, ecological damage to mankind and the world. They grew up into the early environmentalists, starting movements, volunteering and creating ideas on radical healing. They also became the first generation to fear being part of a larger workforce, yet felt fear of not contributing. They were critical of the structures created before them and were looking at becoming more honest. As such they became the first real generation to separate and divorce en masse. (Their divorcing predecessors were more reluctant and less obvious. This generation were more concerned with the emotional poisoning of children and have lived in many different family units)

The Pluto in Libra generation (1971 – 1983), began to fear relationships, as a great shift of family divorces and separations took effect during their childhoods. Here the inequality between man and woman became real and this generation began to buck the trend of marrying young and following set family patterns. During their education, physical punishment (caning) was banned, beginning a new chapter (of personal respect) in education.  They were also one of the earliest generations whose mothers routinely worked. The quest for finding ‘The Romantic Other’ began in earnest – maybe this is as a result of family separation so early on.

They were some of the first people to not ‘own’ their work process from start to finish as the employment world embraced micro-management, segregated tasks and dedicated work function teams. Whereas this culture was common practice within factories, it was now the norm in offices, boardrooms and retail. Job dissatisfaction, purpose and meaning has been questionable ever since.

As adults, both generations have faced choices of conscience in a new way. Where they divorced/separated their financial security was much less certain, yet they gave themselves the chance to rebuild and find happiness in the arms of another. Although both generations were quick to leave the family home following education, many have returned to live at home for brief spells whilst they find their feet again in between relationships and job change/loss.

Employment was no longer guaranteed, neither was there as much ownership involved. Therefore this generation became more specialist in their area of work and less well rounded. With less time to look after themselves, there is a general de-skilling occurring within this generation. They are more likely to pay someone else to fix their problems as they feel time deficient to learn themselves.

The rate of depressive illness, mental breakdowns and ‘being signed off’ increased during these two generations. It would seem that those who stuck to the ‘original formula’ of sticking at marriage and a job, have been the most stable (but not the happiest or most authentic). It would appear that there are cracks appearing in the mandated lifestyle that was created and passed down to these generations.  The cost of living it has increased exponentially for them in comparison to their predecessors.

Mass cognitive dissonance

Pluto in Capricorn and Family Dynamics

During the last 25 years, entertainment, leisure, sexual expression and inebriation has taken on a life of its own. With the electronic age in full swing the subsequent generations have not really known life pre-internet. There has been a mass numbing. With both parents working, many of the youngest three Pluto generations have been raised by the one-eyed babysitter (the television). Therefore the emotional disconnect between families, family culture and feeling loved has grown bigger.

The Pluto in Scorpio generation (1983-1995) are all of working age now. Their biggest fears and areas for transformation have been through the continued sexual revolution and move to ‘experience emotional belonging’. It is during their early childhood that AIDS first came on the scene, not to mention the nuclear threat.

Having had less meaningful contact with their parents, and more ‘leisure and fun’ experience, they have become a generation of thrill seekers, dare devils and sexual chameleons. Their ability to try new things, and throw themselves into the highs and lows of life is impressive. They are even more determined to live their life independently.  Education during this generation has been ever more aspirational, in a way that does not match the faster changing needs of society. It would seem that society changes faster than they can study. And that as they have left education, what they have been taught is out of date for the job in hand.

It’s no wonder that this beautiful creative generation of people are falling prey to depression before they even leave education. The hopelessness felt by this group has incapacitated them and as such they are the first generation who have hesitated to leave home following education.   And where it is difficult to get motivated and feel naturally high on life, the sexual confidence, relative affordability of drink and drugs, has left them finding their fix elsewhere.

The problem for them really is that they are waking up to the family and collective lies that their predecessors have been preaching and it is deeply uncomfortable. They can see the hypocrisy and they long for answers that they know their parents and grandparents are ill-equipped to give. Their greatest challenge is to find themselves on their own and rise from the proverbial ashes. If they are lucky, there may already be a trailblazer / rebel / ‘drop out’ within their family that has already challenged the status quo of the mandated lifestyle.

The Pluto in Sagittarius generation (1995-2008), has experienced fear of racism and religious and cultural belief.  With the energy of 911 etched into their consciousness. It’s no wonder that they have had the most crazy induction into the experiment of freedom. On the one hand they’ve had access to the internet all their lives, and can connect with ANYONE around the world, 24/7. They have also been the generation to have the most fear based parenting, molly coddling and protectiveness. Yet inspite of the protections wrapped around this generation, the ongoing sweep into two income families has meant that much of their childhood was spent in a creche or in childcare. This generation have learnt to be more casual in their emotions, love and needs. They also have the least expectations for love from others. A practical adaptation from necessity. We have yet to see how this generation and the Pluto in Scorpio generation will live and serve humanity. It’s clear though that the pressure to survive is far greater than ever before and that society is broken. The question for them is how do they make it right again?

Transforming family dynamics through Pluto in Capricorn

Pluto in Capricorn and Family Dynamic

It would seem that there is a collective family need for healing right now. Pluto in Capricorn is about responsibility and resource, and as I have suggested, the Pluto generations are all at odds as to how the world works. There is resource disparity throughout families, where those with control have all the resource.  It would also seem that each successive generation has a harder time in establishing itself and in doing so ‘makes the other family members wrong’ by default.

It has and is creating unrest in family situations as when the younger members of families complain of their lot, the elder relatives are hurt. The world that has made their grandparent’s financially comfortable has in fact hurt the children and grandchildren. The grandparents are insulted by their offspring’s suggestions that their way of living is broken. The elder generations aren’t prepared to accept responsibility for this problem.  ‘If only you could apply yourself and work harder none of this would happen’, they say!

This is not just happening within family units, but in communities. A growing conflict of them and us. Of the wealthy and the impoverished. Of the traditionalists versus the freedom fighters. And as the traditionalists pull rank together, people are becoming ever more polarised in their views of history, society, guilt, shame and behaviour.

“It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.” Jiddu Krishnamurti

Families that stick to their ‘official version of family behaviour codes’, will be put under greater and greater pressure. There’s a need for a collective family release. Where families persist in hidden shame, the pressure will leak out and eat at the most susceptible members. (most likely in the form of illness). With no avenues for authenticity you’ll have families breaking down at a faster than normal rate.

The Pluto in Capricorn effect in families, is most likely to affect the most ‘controversial and colourful’ member of the family. (ie the one who is most likely to consider things from a fresh/different perspective). This creates an instability and the rest of the family by default group ever tighter together to feel safe and peaceful once again.

If you’re one of the controversial / colourful family members, no doubt you’ll be feeling a bit scapegoated right now. You’ll be hard pushed to convince your family members with a clever argument or with facts and figures. The older generations don’t want to listen because it ‘makes their values wrong’ somehow.  And whilst this is having an effect on families related by blood, that is not to say that you’re on your own. People are gravitating into new family sets, based on shared value systems, not blind faith and blood.

Families that allow themselves to challenge their identity, will grow stronger and more diverse which is what is needed right now. As they do that they are more likely to support each other (not out of duty, but out of love) and in doing so, will learn about how they can share resources, share skills and create even stronger sustainability for themselves.

It’s a time of being truly responsible and sustainable within families. This can only truly happen when the structures of hierarchy break down, and people find their own ways of contributing to the family collective. Each stage in family life is necessary and each generation needs the other to survive. It’s through learning how to appreciate each others’ contributions and working with each other, that families will transform.

The ultimate transformation through families, will be when each generation comes clean about their part in global society, and makes changes to set this right. For families that do this, it will involve everyone realising that where they have made short cuts in the desire to find security, it has been to the detriment of another. Where one member has profited, another family member has had to bear the cost financially and emotionally. It would seem that the corporate lifestyle and vapid consumerism that has become the way of the world, is in fact killing us all. Far from nourishing us, it is poisoning us. We need our elders, the people in our society with the most connections and experience to stand up, man up and lead by example.

Transforming possibilities:

  • The older generations share their wealth without condition (and not at point of death!)
  • The older generation finally considers where their greed (driven from a level of insecurity), has:- Bought them happiness, impoverished others indirectly, is even sustainable
  • They move to be closer to the newer family consciousness. They don’t expect the younger ones to stay to honour their family shrines (err I mean homes)
  • They stop pushing their security values onto other family members.
  • They use their retirement time to challenge that which weakens the family dynamic
  • The middle generations share their learning and experience on finding love and meaning  honestly. They report on what it has cost them and how it has occurred.
  • They come clean about whether their education has given them:-  Greater earning power, opportunities to feel motivated, defined who they are
  • They stop pushing their parent’s values (that they know don’t work) onto their children
  • They allow their offspring to make their own love choices, free of guilt, shame and anger.
  • They accept that in their haste to make life work, they have not been emotionally available for their offspring / younger generations
  • The younger generations drop the illusion that their elders (with their current myopia) can guide them in changing their world, without changing their minds
  • The younger generations invite their older relatives to meet them on their quest to turn everything around
  • The younger generations stop numbing themselves to hide their concerns. They name their demons and begin to deal with them directly with the full love and support of their elders
  • Every generation forgive themselves and others in their part of the family dynamic and drama. At best, their carefully rehearsed roles have given each other a dynamic learning opportunity that makes them collectively stronger.

Trading in guilts? It’s a shame!

If each generation can ‘own’ how it has peddled in family guilt and collective shame, they can begin to change how they operate and live without having to prove each other wrong. The transformation is to stop thinking so personally and taking offense. If and when this occurs, you’ll see families starting to re-group, heal and transform.

  • With all generations sharing in food preparation, household chores, childcare and enjoying security.
  • With families taking greater responsibility with researching safe food options.
  • With relatives caring for each other when they are sick.
  • With families being there through birth, life and death.

Where this doesn’t occur naturally, then the family dynamic is likely to break down altogether, and people will gravitate towards new value based family and friends to form their own family units. Society by it’s current terms is very difficult to navigate without support. Where there is a vacuum, there is a solution and it may be that the solution is outside of the family unit.

Virgo Full Moon, 2014

Virgo Full Moon 2014March 16th 2014, 5.09 pm

(26 degrees Pisces/ Virgo)

What is the theme for the Virgo Full Moon?

The theme for March’s Full Moon is to look at how we can serve, organise, discern and re-utilise our skills in the most effective way. Virgo’s energy is often self-sacrificing, self-deprecating and can at times find fault. It is important to ensure that the T’s are crossed and the I’s dotted prior to the Full Moon if you’re feeling out of balance. For those people that are especially emotional right now the Virgo Full Moon, marks a time of feeling used, and of feeling like a sacrificial lamb – as if ‘there’s nothing you can do’ to resolve a situation and as if you’re in the firing line of guilt and anger.

The emotions and personality are very cut off during this Full Moon and there is a strong Saturn presence marking a time when it is easy to be weighed down by responsibilities. Use this time to reflect, formulate decisions and get a grip on what would make you feel most empowered. See where you may already have resources that can be re-used to resolve your existing situations. With Saturn retrograde currently, it seems that something you have tried to implement in the past could be re-tested once again. It might be that your current situation is one that keeps recurring. If this is the case, use the power of the Virgo Full Moon to take practical action and accept your part in your difficulties.

Usually the Moon makes useful connections with other planets, which shows us where the build up of energy can be released. With this Virgo Full Moon, there are few options available. This month, there are two real release points for emotional tension and they are Saturn in Scorpio and Lilith in Cancer/Leo.

Full MoonSaturn as a release point

Saturn in Scorpio has the potential to harm, heal and do a bit of both simultaneously. At his best, he can cut through the emotional b*ll sh*t, wade through the guilt and create a clean space for cold scrutiny and truth. But if you catch Saturn in a bad mood, and especially if you’re under resourced, then Saturn in Scorpio can inflame areas of guilt and keep people invested in ‘their story of blame’, judgement and punishment. When really pushed, Saturn can cut his losses and others out of his life.

Lilith as a release point

Lilith in early Leo, forms an easy sextile to the Virgo Full Moon and Pisces Sun. The asteroid Lilith during this Full Moon, gives people access to confront, rebel and look for freedom from the emotions. It represents some of our earliest hurts and injuries, where we haven’t yet found peace. To have this in an easy position during the Full Moon, signifies that there is an opportunity for a big emotional release, if you’re brave enough to let out your judgements, and even more daring enough to let them go straight after.

Integrating the Full Moon Energy in March (2 recommendations)

If you’re in an emotional situation right now

If you are in an emotional situation right now and are ready to lance the poison, I’d recommend facing your nemesis head on. It is important to give each participant a chance to speak fully, whilst not reacting to what they say in a personal way. Listen to it as information. If you can’t be impartial, have someone you trust to stay neutral.

This is a Full Moon where old guilt, personal judgements and childhood pain can easily surface. You need to find an adult and detached mind-space to be able to look over the truth of what you may have felt and realise that it no longer applies.

The Waning Moon phase, which follows for the next couple of weeks, will allow any residual pain to die, and for you to ‘detox’ your body of any previous poisonous beliefs.

If you’re feeling relaxed in your life

For those who are feeling relaxed in life, this Full Moon marks a time to become more aware of where your personal obstacles/beliefs are preventing you from moving forward.  It is a time to de-clutter your emotions and your belongings. Whatever is in your life that no longer serves you, it’s time to let go of it. Potter around for the next few days and think through your health, your home, your belongings, your work. What is useful? What beliefs and habits can be re-cycled and applied in other areas? How can you better serve yourself and others?

This need not be stressful. If it gets stressful, leave it for a while. Don’t let go of the relaxation you’re currently feeling. There are better times to let go in April!

Looking forward into April and beyond

If you can at least lance your current emotional boils now, you’ll be much better resourced for April, which marks a time of collective unrest, posturing and discovery. The energy of April is rebellious, hot and irrational. Its not a time to make big life decisions in the heat of the moment.

As we move into May we can begin to build bridges once again and feel more connected to one another in spite of our differences.

Who is most affected by the Virgo Full Moon?

This is most potent for the following people:-

  • It is most transformative to those born in around 26 degrees of the mutable signs (Virgo, born 18-20th September / Sagittarius, born 17th-19th December / Pisces, born 15th-17th March / Gemini, born 16th-18th June) – it might get difficult, but can lead to stronger resolve and healing
  • The Earth Signs (Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn) will have opportunities to make great steps forward, and to connect to slow-burning future destinations.
  • For people that know their birthchart – Anyone with a planet, sensitive point or angle to approximately 26 degrees Virgo  (or Pisces, Sagittarius, Gemini at 26 degrees)

Enjoy today’s Full Moon everyone!
